Abstract

Goal. The work is devoted to the systematization of literary data on bacterial contamination of seeds of plants of the Apiaceae family, the analysis of phytopathogenic bacteria associated with it, and the generalization of information on the antimicrobial potential of essential oils of these plants as a natural means of restraining the development of pathogens. Methods. The study is of a review-analytical nature and is based on the systematization and content analysis of modern scientific publications from international databases concerning the antimicrobial activity of essential oils of plants of the Apiaceae family and their potential to suppress phytopathogenic bacteria. Results. The study showed that essential oils of plants of the Apiaceae family, rich in monoterpenes, phenolic compounds, aromatic aldehydes, and other volatile bioactive components, exhibit a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. The main mechanisms of action include disruption of the integrity of bacterial cell membranes, inhibition of enzymatic systems, interference with energy metabolism, and inhibition of bacterial growth. The complex chemical composition of essential oils ensures a synergistic effect, enhancing antimicrobial activity and reducing the risk of resistance development in microorganisms. The analysis of scientific literature made it possible to outline the prospects for the practical application of essential oils in the biological protection of seeds and plants. In particular, their use in pre-sowing seed treatment technologies, as well as in the development of natural antimicrobial compositions and biological preparations, is considered promising, as it may reduce dependence on synthetic pesticides, improve the phytosanitary condition of planting material, and ensure environmentally safe crop production. Conclusion. A retrospective analysis of scientific sources showed that seeds of plants of the Apiaceae family are a potential reservoir of phytopathogenic bacteria. At the same time, it should be noted that the essential oils of these crops are characterized by significant antimicrobial potential, which substantiates their promise as environmentally safe agents for limiting bacterial infections and their integration into modern biological plant protection systems.
